- Globe Wins Woodbury Business of the Year Award
The Woodbury Chamber of Commerce recently announced that Globe University was selected as the “Woodbury Business of the Year.” The award will be presented to the school January 23, 2009, at Woodbury Chamber of Commerce’s annual gala and silent auction event, “An Evening in Tuscany,” held at the Prom Center.Globe University was one of many businesses nominated for the award by the community of Woodbury. To be selected for the award, businesses underwent a complex rating system involving such criteria as “business operation in Woodbury,” “contributions to the economic or social improvement of Woodbury” and “exemplary community service improvement of Woodbury.”Globe University members of the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce include Amy Harker, Director of Career Services at Globe University-Woodbury, and Mike Hughes, Director of Military Services for Globe University/Minnesota School of Business. Harker is a member of the chamber’s Ambassadors Committee and Hughes is a member of its Board of Directors.Other awards to be presented at the gala include Educator of the Year (Preschool, Elementary and Secondary), Educational Team of the Year, and Citizen of the Year.The Woodbury Chamber of Commerce has provided Globe University with valuable networking opportunities. As a member of the Ambassadors Committee, Amy Harker has welcomed new businesses to the Woodbury community and gained many job placement opportunities for Globe graduates. Mike Hughes is chair of the Membership Committee, as well as an Education Committee member.In June 2009, Globe University-Woodbury will be hosting a “Good Morning Woodbury” networking event for the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce. Other events conducted by the chamber include involvement in the annual Woodbury Days celebration and monthly networking events. - Cosmetology Business Scholarship Announced
Globe University/Minnesota School of Business (GU/MSB) is offering a scholarship to students enrolled in or interested in the Cosmetology Business Associate degree program. A graduate of Minnesota School of Cosmetology (MSC) who possesses a cosmetology diploma/license and who fulfilled the following requirements will qualify for a scholarship award of $2000 toward a Cosmetology Business Associate degree: Eligibility Guidelines: The applicant must possess a current cosmetology license. The applicant must have graduated from MSC with an overall grade of 95% or higher. The applicant must have graduated from MSC with an attendance record of 95% or higher. The applicant must have his or her MSC tuition paid in full and have signed off with Financial Aid. The applicant must graduate from MSC within the allotted maximum completion time frame. Award amounts are designated for tuition for the GU/MSB AAS Cosmetology Business Degree only and will be paid directly to GU/MSB. The student must maintain a schedule of at least ½-time and must maintain satisfactory academic progress or the award is forfeited. The award is forfeited if attendance is discontinued or interrupted. Award amounts are designated for AAS: Cosmetology Business charges only and are divided in ¼ increments, unless the student completes the program in less than four terms of enrollment, in which case the amount will be divided by the number of terms the student is enrolled. Washington, D.C. – The ACICS Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Dr. Albert C. Gray as Executive Director and CEO of ACICS, effective Dec. 17, 2008. The announcement came after a three-month executive recruitment process that was conducted by a special search committee appointed by the Board.Dr. Gray has more than 13 years experience directing professional and technical membership programs, including most recently as executive director and CEO of the Public Health Accreditation Board. He is a former CEO of the National Society of Professional Engineers, and has served in various management and consulting capacities with engineering firms in Virginia since 1969.Dr. Gray earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.“The dynamic opportunities that are available to ACICS require leadership of the stature, experience and depth represented by Dr. Gray,” said Eric Juhlin, chair. “His association management, accreditation, and external relations experience makes him potentially a strong force in driving ACICS forward.”The search committee received more than 160 resumes for the position. About 30 candidates made it through the resume review to the evaluation phase. After an assessment of personality and job experience, about 15 individuals were selected for comprehensive phone interviews with the search committee; five candidates were selected for face-to-face interviews. Finally, the search committee presented two candidates to the Board and Dr. Gray was selected.“I encourage ACICS schools to welcome Dr. Gray to this important leadership position,” Juhlin said. “This is an exciting new beginning for ACICS and I believe members will share my enthusiasm for our future growth and development.
