Actually the tools have come a long way. There are now several out in the market place that provide fairly concise (and accurate) recognition of products (including if they're components of suites and patch levels - at least on the OS for patch levels).A couple worth looking at are: BelManage, Centennial, eSmart, and Express Metrix. There are quite a few others so this is just a short list - as with any software implementation it depends upon the business requirements to determine which is - Comment by wiseguy77 on Free Ipod ? Have you ever tried Tidal Software's Horizon and Transaction Analyzer? It allows you to capture 100% of your SAP transactions, so you can go back and pull any transaction to see the who, what, when and where for compliancy issues. - Comment by Will Eastbury on Free Ipod ? Really

At a previous conversion, we used a wonder application named BackOffice. It was a very efficient and easy way to tie thru an ODBC connection to the SAP tables directly. We used it to extract our legacy data, import it, translate it, create and run BDC sessions to load the data into SAP. It allow for the creation of simple queries and updates in Access. Then, it contolled the execution stream of those queries to build the table that would be used to create the data for the scripted load sessi - Comment by bhaskar_30 on SAP Extracts

Best of luck, just don't let any AOL CD's near after you rebuilt it ! Actually, my laptop could do with a rebuild itself anyway... I think I've got about 40 apps that I don't really use, and probably 10-15 that I have never used, and probably never will...I think the worst thing you can have in terms of home users is the person that actually knows a little, but not enough. . . . The person that installs the virus-checker, but mis-configures it and has a false sense of security - Comment by Rosie Brent on Home PC's
Interesting that it was the AOL installations that finally made you crack.I don't know about anyone else reading this, but I have to hold my hand up and say that there's at least 20 applications on my laptop currently that I don't use. I *know* I should remove them, but I just can't seem to find the time I need to do a full rebuild (which frankly is what it needs now - after 2 years of intensive use and installation of all sorts of rubbish).Very rarely do you meet a home PC user who - Comment by WillEast on SAP or No SAP ? Thanks for your comment.Sage are one of the largest UK-based software suppliers, so I would have thought they will still be around in 5 years.- Will Sage offer the functionality required by the business? That is actually a matter of "Will the software do what we need without bespoke work", as we are looking to remove a lot of the "Funnies" from our systems that were implemented when we were part of a much larger organisation. As to the complex processes, we are trying to take - Comment by Manuel on SAP or No SAP ? That is the question . . .
I grant you complexity and cost of support as valid reasons for selecting another ERP system. However, there are many other reasons that remain unanswered and are much more relevant: - Will sage be around in 5 years? If not, then a less expensive support doesn't buy you much.- Will Sage offer the functionality required by the business? Whether to implement one or the other ERP system is never only a function of cost, but most often of 'can the system do what we need?' and for many business
