This blog is about merging enterprise business and enterprise IT into a composite service-oriented enterprise.
- Do we need to pass a user identity through the service interface in SOA?
I cannot figure out who might need the end-user identity within the SOA service if it is designed properly... - Good Service with Bad Results
Many IT professionals like Web Services because of the major benefits they claim - the freedom to change the implementation behind the interface transparently to the consumers. Are you sure we have this freedom? - Reuse in SOA: do we need to reuse services or legacy systems?
IT tries to sell SOA on reuse to the Business. Why? - Because IT can do it even w/o SOA: wrap a Stone with a Web Service. Well, a simple question, which IT does not like to answer, - Why didn't you reuse the Stone before? - Does SOA need a choreography or it can dance by itself?
Recently I participated in an extended discussion about standards and mechanisms of service collaboration (in SOA). Here I would like to share some unexpected results with you. - Cloud Computing: Before Jumping Into The Cloud Think If You Can Get Out
- I deployed my major app into the Cloud today! - Wow! Do you know on whose server it is now? - No, why? - What if your competitor owns that server? - Oh, I did not think about it!! Damn it... - Observing Updated SOMA
A look at SOMA from the service orientation perspectives - What to Expect from Testing in SOE
What is so special about testing in service-oriented development? The simplest answer might be like this: testing is the way to find that the built things are as they planned; since service-oriented (SO) development has some specifics with regard to regular application development, related testing may have specifics as well. - SOA Challenges IT Operational Service
While Service Architects work on convergence of Business and Technology architectures, IT Management has to put close attention on integration and collaboration between service development and IT Operations. - TOGAF, Service Orientation, and Simplicity
We know now that in modern enterprise culture SOA must be started with Governance. Does new project for TOGAF recognises this fact? How TOGAF ADM might look like in the presence of SO Paradigm? - Where REST and WS*- Web Services may be positioned in SOE
WS*- and REST Web Services get compared in their applicability from the SOE point of view. - WOA is not SOA, not at all
WOA is not a SOA subsystem, it is a compromise of SOA concept - ESB in SOE, or a View on ESB from the OASIS SOA Perspective
ESB in SOE or in OASIS SOA environment may cause ownership and operational problems. It is unclear so far who is responsible to the service consumer for the operations conducted by ESB - service provider ot ESB itself. - Modelling SOE: Observation
SOE modelling is based on enterprise business model decomposition and mapping of the business capabilities onto the technology capabilities. Decomposition and mapping have to follow certain rules and definitions. We would benefit a lot if they were standardized. - How to define a Service Oriented Enterprise?
My definition: a Service Oriented Enterprise (SOE) is an organization whose business and IT are integrated based on the organization’s business model across the entire organization to deliver business services to the consumers to gain business goals - OASIS SOA Reference Model standard as a view on the business nature of a SOA Service
After almost 2 years after the OASIS SOA RM standard was released, many SOA practitioners still consider SOA as a technology (thanks to the vendors) and struggle with SOA projects in current difficult financial circumstances in the market. The way to go with SOA is not in a better technology but in a better understanding of the enterprise business model.
